Reina Endo holds photo exhibition at Café NOMADO in Nezu, Tokyo

Reina Endo, an Excellence Award winner of New Cosmos of Photography 1999 (the 19th competition), is holding a photo exhibition at Café NOMADO in Nezu, Tokyo. Reina Endo, who has frequently shown her works in provincial cities, is holding the exhibition in Tokyo after a long interval. We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the transient yet dramatic scenes she has depicted.

The artist’s comments on this exhibition’s theme:
“Role playing”
One of my senses catches by chance
A faint “presence” that arises from a certain spot.
Using my eyesight, I find that spot .
There is a “player,” whether a living thing or an object,
Releasing an attractive aura.
Fascinated by its exquisite performance,
I press the shutter in spite of myself.
Each of them continues performing its story,
Not noticing the spectator (me),
Following the scenario prepared somewhere unknown.

In such a case, I watch from the other side at a distance.
Standing, holding my breath so as not to take my eyes off the spot.
Meanwhile, I begin to suspect,
If I myself am playing a role given to me.
Aren’t even the words that I’ll utter tomorrow already prepared?

Well now, I’ll get away from myself to watch myself.

My old and new works selected from series “Petit,” “Exotic Japan Remix,” and “Domestic View” are combined and displayed. I’ll be more than happy if visitors would empathize with the moment when the “landscape” turns into a “scene” due to the performers as if the “sky” became a “river” and “wind” turned to “stream” because of the presence of koinobori (carp-shaped wind socks).
