Satomi Obara has launched a project to assist with earthquake reconstruction
Following, a major earthquake that occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of eastern Japan, the photographers Satomi Obara and Masahiko Taniguchi launched the WONDERFUL PHOTO to PEACE project with the objective of assisting with reconstruction through photographs.
This is an open invitation for photos that document towns stricken by the disaster and depict the day-to-day lives of the people involved. The organizers hope to reach areas affected by the disaster, and that the photos will eventually provide memories and healing.
Obara has been awarded the honorable mention in the New Cosmos of Photography five times (19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th competitions), as well as an honorable mention incentive award in 2001.
