Canon now accepting entry applications for “New Cosmos of Photography 2007”
– 2007 contest welcomes art director Ryoichi Enomoto and photographer Bohnchang Koo as guest judges –

Canon Inc. announced today that it is now accepting entry applications for the “New Cosmos of Photography 2007” photo competition. The entry period for this year’s contest is from Monday, April 16, to Monday, June 11, 2007, with applications being accepted using the newly introduced Web Application Entry system.

For this year’s contest, art director Ryoichi Enomoto and photographer Bohnchang Koo will be serving as guest judges, in addition to the regular judging panel: Nobuyoshi Araki (photographer), Kotaro Iizawa (photo critic), Fumio Nanjo (Director of the Mori Art Museum), and Daido Moriyama (photographer).

Ryoichi Enomoto is active in a wide range of fields, including design, editing, publishing and cultural events. He has produced a large number of newcomers, including Katsuhiko Hibino and Noriyuki Tanaka. Among Mr. Enomoto’s more recent activities, in 2007 he planned and produced KISHO KUROKAWA KEYWORD LIVE at the National Art Center, Tokyo.

Bohnchang Koo, a photographer from Seoul, Korea, is active not only in his home country but also around the world. In 2004, he held a highly regarded solo exhibition in Paris based on the theme of traditional Korean masque. Mr. Koo’s current photographic pursuits, fueled by his strong interest in the subject matter, focus on capturing the beauty of white porcelain vessels from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

Each of the six contest judges will select one entry submission to receive an excellence award. The six award-winning works will be given the right to appear in the “New Cosmos of Photography 2007” Exhibition to be held this fall. This year’s Grand Prize winner will be decided at the Grand Prize selection committee meeting, which will be open to the public, to be held during the exhibition.

Canon is hoping to receive photographic works that are original, creative and go beyond conventional approaches, created by new photographers attempting to redefine the boundaries of photographic expression.
