“New Cosmos of Photography Exhibition” on tour (in Sendai, Osaka, and Fukuoka)
“New Cosmos of Photography Exhibition” that aims to discover, nurture, and support young photographers, is touring successively Sendai, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
The exhibition of “New Cosmos of Photography” held in Tokyo at the end of 2005 was well received. Its touring show started on February 3 in Sendai, and goes to Osaka, and Fukuoka.
“New Cosmos of Photography,” a cultural support program of Canon launched in autumn 1991, aims to discover, nurture, and support young photographers who are pursuing possibilities in photographic expressions. The program is designed to encourage young photographers to try their free, creative and experimental ways, not only in conventional silver salt photos but also in adopting digital images or mixing photos with other areas of expression. A large number of up-and-coming photographers who have been found in this competition to date include Mika Ninagawa and Tomoko Sawada.
For this exhibition tour are displayed “New Cosmos of Photography” works of the grand prize winner 2005 Akiko OZAWA, the excellent prize work winners 2005 (four artists and a unit of two artists), and new works by Motoyo KAWAMURA and Koji TAKIGUCHI, co-grand prize winner 2004. The content of the exhibition is a re-constructed version of the Exhibition held at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography from November through December 2005.
At each venue of the tour is scheduled a talk show by the participating artists, and a place to exchange views on photographic expressions will be provided as well.
*As there was no grand prize winner for the year 2004, two co-grand prize winners were selected.
