New Cosmos of Photography 2006 Tokyo Exhibition to open
Grand Prize Selection Open-committee Meeting to be held during exhibition

The New Cosmos of Photography 2006 Tokyo Exhibition opens on November 11th. The exhibition will present six Excellence Award - winning works by seven artists and 28 Honorable Mention works by 29 artists from New Cosmos of Photography 2006 (29th competition). The open committee meeting to select one Grand Prize winner from among this year’s Excellence Award winners will also be held during the exhibition.

The Grand Prize Selection Open-committee Meeting highlighted by Excellence Award winner presentations, will also provide a forum for provocative exchanges with the selecting judges where you can hear a lot about photographism directly. A solo exhibition of new works by 2005 Grand Prize winner Akiko Ozawa entitled “babu” will be held at the same time. Other related events held during the exhibition include live conversation sessions with this year’s selecting judges.
New Cosmos of Photography 2006 accepted entries from May through June. A total of 1,505 entrants submitted 46,170 photographs, the most since the competition began.

Comment of the artist
Smoking, drinking, cell phones, the Internet, work, even chocolate − everyone has at least one thing in their life that they just can’t give up. Along with modernity comes dependency, vice, and dealing with the child within all of us. How many of us can say with certainty that we are fully in control of our adult nature?
