New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo Exhibition 2007 to open
Grand Prize selection open committee meeting to be held during exhibition

The New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo Exhibition 2007 will present Excellence Award-winning works by six artists and Honorable Mention works by 27 artists, who were selected from among 1,277 entrants of the year 2007 (30th competition). The open committee meeting to select one Grand Prize winner from among this year’s Excellence Award winners will also be held during the exhibition. The Grand Prize selection open committee meeting, highlighted by Excellence Award winners’ presentations, will also provide a forum for provocative exchanges with the judges, where those attending can hear about their ideas on photography directly. What is more, related events held on the day when the Grand Prize selection open committee meeting is held include a talk session with Mr. Bohnchang Koo, a photographer who represents South Korea and is a guest judge this year, and Mr. Kotaro Iizawa, a photo critic who represents Japan, and is a regular judge. After the session, a draw will be held to choose five people from among the audience to whom an autographed photo book of Mr. Bohnchang Koo will be presented.

Comments from the artist :
These photos that are elongated vertically to liberate the subjects photographed from being seen, due to visually increased gravitation. The intention is to let the viewer feel space and time as they are. Here, I have visualized gravitation and the space-time continuum, macro-photos outside contours and on the run, and memories of the past that have escaped the context.
