New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo Exhibition 2009 to open
Grand Prize selection open committee meeting to be held during the exhibition

The New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo Exhibition 2009 will present Excellence Award-winning works by five artists and Honorable Mention works by 18 artists, who have been selected from among 1,340 entrants in 2009 (32nd competition). An exhibition of new works by Masanori Hata, Grand Prize winner 2008, will be held concurrently.

The open committee meeting to select one Grand Prize winner from among this year's Excellence Award winners will also be held during the exhibition period. At the Grand Prize selection open committee meeting, Excellence Award winners will give presentations and have out a question and answer session with the judges for approximately 15 minutes per person. This is a great opportunity to hear the opinions, evaluations, and active discussions about current photographic expression through the award-winning works. Do not miss it!

If you would like to attend the Grand Prize selection open committee meeting, please make an advanced reservation (application details will be made available on this homepage by mid-October). We hope you will take this opportunity to attend the events.

Comments from the artist:
This time I selected photos from "Soft Meat," which is a series of portrait photos of male and females of the same generation, and by exhibiting those photos and the space that shows the photos overall, I called it "neoteny mind."

In addition, the male and female genitals were covered up with tape (in the pamphlet they are blacked out). This is required by Japanese law, however, as an artist I did it on purpose, and I wanted to communicate this point.
