The Philosophy

Our activities are based on Kyosei, the fundamental corporate philosophy of Canon. Therefore, we are well aware that we should live up to the standards of an excellent global corporation, and are socially responsible not only for doing business successfully but also for making contributions in other areas of activities.

“Kyosei” has been the corporate philosophy of Canon since 1988. It means “a society in which humankind can live long and work together with satisfaction and happiness irrespective of culture, customs, language, and race.” To Canon, it is not a mere formula but an aim to achieve.

The primary raison d’etre of a corporation is to develop a profit-making business and return the profit to stockholders. Corporate activities should produce profits for the sake of shareholders, employees, customers, and the general public. Since it embarked on the “Excellent Global Corporation Plan” in 1996, Canon has never stopped taking specific steps to encourage reform and innovation in management to be a true global excellent company.

At the same time, a “truly excellent global corporation” is expected to shoulder social responsibility in activities other than managing the business. Based on the concept of ”Kyosei,” and as a corporate citizen, Canon has been positively engaged in activities to build good relations with communities and environments, and solve their problems. Needless to say, it is first and foremost for Canon to provide customers with its excellent products.

Today the support activities of Canon include worldwide activities in different fields, such as environmental preservation, cultural, and educational aid, helping the disabled live as independently as possible, and disaster relief activities.

We sincerely hope that through our website as many people as possible can get information on our social and cultural support programs. We also hope that the society and Canon will continue to have good communication, and our social and cultural support activities will develop to make further meaningful contributions to the betterment of humankind.
