On June 7, 2009, Canon employees and their family members took part in “Walk the World”, a charity event organized by the Japan Office of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Japan Association for the United Nations World Food Programme.
The event is a walkathon dedicated to ridding the world of hunger, which still afflicts millions of children across the globe. It is designed to raise awareness of the problem of hunger, and 500 yen of the 1,000 yen participation fee is donated to the WFP School Feeding Programme.
Canon has taken part in this charity walk since 2006. Participants have increased by the year, and this year’s event, which was blessed by sunshine, attracted 132 people from Canon.
After the opening ceremonies the walkers set out under blue skies from Rinko Park, and on the way they took in the historic sights of Yokohama, like Aka Renga Park, Yamashita Park, and Harbor View Park.
This year’s walk was attended also by 150 people from Canon Marketing Japan Group.
