Commemorative photo with the children

On September 28, Canon Opto Malaysia (COM) collected contributions for the children of the nearby Rymah Amal Limpahan Kasih child-care facility. The company and its employees presented the children with necessities such as a washing machine, bedding and furniture and held a fund drive as well.

COM invited all 60 children of the child-care facility to the company and held a dinner party for them. At this party, the donations and funds collected were presented, and each child was individually given a gift.

This took place during the fasting period called Ramadan, when Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink anything during the daylight hours, while the sun is out (they may eat evening meals and morning meals before sunrise).

Muslims fast to experience the suffering of poor people who do not have much to eat; thereby renewing their gratitude for the daily life they enjoy.

Once this period of fasting ends, there is a long day of celebration called Hari Raya Puasa.

COM's recent charitable activity, along with providing some assistance to the children of the neighborhood to whose good auspices the company is indebted, during this period that is important to the people of Malaysia, was also an invaluable opportunity for COM employees to experience the philosophy of "kyosei," the sharing of the joy of being alive with the local people.
