Adapting the CMOS sensor technology utilized in its digital SLR cameras, Canon developed a CMOS sensor for full HD video camcorders. The CMOS sensor offers high-speed reading of images in full HD with low power consumption, and utilizes a primary color filter featuring comprehensive color information that achieves faithful color reproduction while minimizing false colors and moiré patterns. The sensor also incorporates On Chip Noise Reduction Technology that supports low-noise recording in low-light conditions.

By employing processing technology enabling a pixel pitch of 2.75µm,* Canon made possible the production of a 1/2.7- inch (effective diagonal length of 0.66 cm) sensor, which contributes to the camcorder´s compact body size.
