Digital cameras equipped with DIGIC III incorporate Face Detection AF (Auto Focus), which can recognize human faces in a picture and adjust the focus accordingly.

Additionally, Face Detection FE (Flash Exposure), which utilizes Face Detection AF, detects faces in the picture plane and controls the flash light accordingly for more intelligent subject brightness. This function prevents faces from looking washed out or losing shadow detail, and ensures optimal exposure for all faces in the picture.
