Development of a wide print head delivering high-quality images, high-speed output

The DreamLabo 5000 print head

It is important for commercial photo printers to offer both high-quality output and high productivity. Development for the new DreamLabo brand began based on a configuration employing roll paper and a wide stationary print head. The team successfully developed a print head with excellent performance that meets the strict requirements for high-speed processing despite the fact that the roll paper only passes under the print head once for each color.

Specialized paper and ink enabling stable high-quality images

Seven-color ink system

Printing quality is generally determined by the paper and ink used, and this is especially pronounced for inkjet printing. Thanks to the development of specialized roll paper and a seven-color dye-based ink system, the DreamLabo 5000 realizes color representation that comprehensively surpasses that of silver halide photography.*

High-productivity through uninterrupted printing

Double paper magazine system

In order to improve the productivity of commercial photo printers, it's not enough to simply increase printing speed. Instead, the key is to ensure continuous operation without interruption or shutting down. The DreamLabo 5000's high-speed data processing and its paper and ink double-loading system deliver high-productivity performance.

The group of developers enthusiastically engaged in the development of the new product

The DreamLabo 5000 marks Canon's full-fledged entry into a new area of business for the company. During the large-scale development project, the developers passionately overcame difficulties they had never encountered before. Ahead of the release of the product, the developers feel satisfaction for having created a high-quality product that could become a new industry standard.
