Nanometals: New Nanomaterials

Metals are known for the way their properties can be changed, by either increasing their purity or mixing in other metals at a molecular level to create alloys. Nanometals are new nanomaterials on which research is being conducted in the following areas.

1.Nano-level purification of metals to create nanometals with conductive, thermal, magnetic and other properties that are unobtainable by more conventional purification methods. 2.Exponential improvement in strength, ductility, corrosion resistance and other properties of metals through reduction and homogenization of the crystal (or grain) size. 3.Ultraprecise control of metal properties through the controlled doping of metals with nano-sized particles of other materials under 100 nm.
In addition to using nanometal technology to control and improve such metal properties as strength, conductivity, ductility, corrosion resistance and heat resistance, research is also being conducted on ease of application as coatings and firing materials. Nanometal technology looks likely to spawn a wide range of new possibilities for the use of metals.
