What is Nanotechnology? - Nanotechnology - a catalyst for the fusion of technologies

Where is nanotechnology headed?

Before asking you specifically about nanotechnology, I'd like to hear about Canon's vision for the future, the direction of technology you are aiming at.
AnswerUp to now we've focused mainly on developing imaging technology — the technology that enables various communications with visual means. We'll almost certainly continue to concentrate our efforts basically in the same sphere, but that doesn't mean that we'll just go on extending our capabilities in existing fields.

Means of communication and their significance change over time. For example, the more convenient our living environment becomes, the more we hunger for better means of communication. As society becomes more complex and lifestyles more diverse, communication will likely assume a deeper meaning, increasing in necessity and importance. Changes in means and importance of communication will in turn drive changes in technological concepts and innovation, and Canon too will no doubt become involved in an even wider range of leading edge technology as a result. We'll be seeking to anticipate the future of communications technology, and further extend our strengths accordingly.
